Cal Transfer Kuany Kuany Commits to VCU
Cal transfer Kuany Kuany announced on social media on Monday that he has committed to Virginia Commonwealth, or VCU as it is generally known.
The slender 6-foot-9 Kuany played 32 games, including 26 starts, for Cal this past season, and he averaged 9.0 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 29.8% on three-pointers.
Kuany played four years at Cal, and will be using his additional COVID year of eligibility at VCU. He graduated from Cal in May with his undergraduate degree in sociology so he will be graduate transfer.
He will be playing for new VCU head coach Ryan Odom, who was Utah State's head coach the past two years before being hired by VCU on March 29. Odom replaces Mike Rhoads, who left VCU to become Penn State's head coach.
VCU went 27-8 in 2022-23, and the Rams won both the regular-season Atlantic 10 title and the conference tournament, but lost to Saint Mary's in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Kuany was one of seven Cal players who entered the transfer portal after the 2022-23 season, joining Joel Brown, Lars Thiemann, Marsalis Roberson, Sam Alajiki, Obinna Anyanwu and Jarred Hyder, The Bears had a 3-29 record this past season and head coach Mark Fox was fired and replaced by Mark Madsen.
Madsen has added five transfers to Cal's roster for next season: Jaylon Tyson, Keonte Kennedy, Jalen Cone, Mike Meadows and Fardaws Aimaq.
