Cal Guard Marsalis Roberson Enters Transfer Portal

The sophomore becomes the sixth Golden Bears basketball player to enter the portal since the season ended

Marsalis Roberson became the sixth Cal player since the end of the 2022-23 season to enter the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-5 Roberson, who played his high school ball at Oakland's Bishop O'Dowd, played in 31 games this past season as a sophomore, but did not start any of them. He averaged 12.7 minutes, 1.8 points and 1.8 rebounds. He attempted 28 three-point shots but made only five, which is 17.9%.

Roberson was particularly impressive with some of his dunks and blocked shots.

He joins Joel Brown, Kuany Kuany, Lars Thiemann, Jarred Hyder and Sam Alajiki as Cal players who have entered the transfer portal in recent weeks.

Roberson's decison to enter the transfer portal came after Cal named Mark Madsen as its new head basketball coach.

Madsen said he will use the transfer portal extensively to acquirte talent to fit his system, which uses an up-tempo style. It seems that Roberson might have fit that style, but there presumably were other considerations.

Devin Askew and Jalen Calestine said this week that they will not transfer and look forward to playing for Madsen next season.
