Cal Basketball: Guard Jaylon Tyson Adds Another Post-Season Honor
Cal junior guard Jaylon Tyson has added another postseason honor, chosen Tuesday to the five-player All-District 19 team sponsored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
Named to the All-Pac-12 first team earlier this month, Tyson came to Cal this season from Texas Tech and averaged 19.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He is one of two Division I players nationwide with that set of numbers, and ranked among the top-10 in the Pac-12 in all three categories.
* Tyson talks in the video at the top of this story about his experience at Cal in an interview I conducted last month.
Tyson’s 607 points are tied with Allen Crabbe (2013) for the seventh-most in a season by a Cal player.
Tyson has one year of eligibility remaining, and he must weigh whether to remain at Cal or enter the NBA draft. Currently, he’s projected as a second-round pick (37th overall) by NBAdraft.net and late first round (28th overall) by Bleacher Report.
He also was one of 10 finalists for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.
Others named to the District 19 first team are Washington's Keion Brooks Jr., Washington State's Isaac Jones, Arizona's Caleb Love and Colorado's KJ Simpson.
Washington State’s Kyle Smith was voted District 19 Coach of the Year.
