Aaron Rodgers Trade Odds: 'Not San Fran,' Davante Adams Hints Raiders

Former Cal star still the betting favorite to be the Jets' opening-day starting quarterback

The Aaron Rodgers-to-the-Jets narrative is becoming louder, if you pay attention to betting sites. And the Rodgers-to-the-Raiders story got some traction Thursday, thanks to a one-word twitter message by Davante Adams. And the Rodgers-to-the-49ers speculation took a big hit Thursday when Rodgers himself said, “not going to San Fran” while teeing off at Pebble Beach.

The former Cal quarterback has not announced whether he will retire, and said he won’t make a decision until sometime after the Super Bowl. And for him to play elsewhere in 2023 the Packers would have to want to trade him and execute a trade.

But that has not stopped gamblers from putting their money down on what they expect, and the odds of Rodgers’ 2023 destination have become a weekly story.

We have to start with the Jets, because Rodgers is now the betting favorite to become the Jets’ 2023 opening-day starting quarterback, according to the SportsBetting.ag website.

Rodgers is listed at +150 to be the Jets quarterback next season, which is the same as 3-to-2 and suggests a 40% probability that he will be the Jets’ quarterback. The Jets hiring of former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator and head coach Robert Saleh’s recent statement that the Jets are in the market for an experience quarterback had gamblers thinking Rodgers may be in the Jets’ future.

Here are the odds to be the Jets’ opening-day quarterback:

Aaron Rodgers (under contract with Packers): +150, or 3-to-2, or 40% probability.

Lamar Jackson (free agent): +400, or 4-to-1, or 20% probability

Derek Carr (likely to be traded): +450, or 9-to-2, or 18.18% probability

Jimmy Garoppolo (free agent): +450, or 9-to-2, or 18.18% probability

Mike White (Jets): +600, or 6-to-1, or 14.29% probability

Zach Wilson (Jets): +850, or 9.5-to-1, 10.53% probability

Possible first-round picks C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young: +2500, or 25-to-1, or 3.85% probability.

Let’s move on to the Raiders’ opening, and Rodgers is getting some buzz for that spot based on Davante Adams’ response to a twitter question asking him what neighborhood Rodgers might be in next season.

Adams, a friend and former teammate of Rodgers, said simply: “Mine.”

Hmm.

Of course, Adams has said stuff on twitter in the past merely to get readers excited, so this may be another effort to create news when none exists.

ESPN’s Sadam Schefter said Thursday that if the Packers were to trade Rodgers they “would prefer to trade him to the AFC.” Regarding the Raiders search for a different quarter, Schefter added, “Rodgers is as plausible and as ideal as any scenario you could come up with.”

So before the Adams and Schefter interjections, SportsBetting.ag had these odds to be the Raiders’ opening-day quarterback:

Jarrett Stidham (Raiders): +150, or 3-to-2, or 40% probability

Jimmy Garoppolo: +200, or 2-to-1, or 33.3% probability

Aaron Rodgers: +450, or 9-to-2, or 18.18% probability

Possible first-round pick Will Levis: +1000, or 10-to-1, or

Lamar Jackson: +1200, or 12-to-1, or 7.69% probability

Baker Mayfield (free agent): +1400, or 14-to-1, or 6.67% probability

Not everyone is buying the Rodgers-to-Raiders talk:

The other possible landing spot for Rodgers that seemed to make sense after Tom Brady announced his retirement is the 49ers.

But Rodgers poured some cold water on that when he was about the tee off Thursday and was asked whether he had any news to share. The only thing Rodgers said was “not going to San Fran.”

Schefter backed up that sentiment by saying the 49ers are an unlikely destination because the Packers would prefer not to send Rodgers to another NFC team.

But because it remains uncertain whether Brock Purdy (elbow surgery soon) will be ready for the 2023 season opener, the 49ers’ quarterback situation is unclear, leading SportsBetting.ag to provide these odds to be San Francisco’s opening-day quarterback, with Trey Lance being the heavy favorite but Rodgers next:

Trey Lance (49ers): -300, or 1-to-3, or 75% probability

Aaron Rodgers: +250, or 5-to-2, or 28.57% probability

Jimmy Garoppolo: +700, or 7-to-1, or 12.50% probability

Tom Brady: +2200, or 22-to-1, or 4.35% probability
