Cal Adds Stanford Transfer Offensive Lineman Barrett Miller

Miller started 30 games during his four seasons with the Bears' archrival

Cal added a major piece to its 2023 team on Sunday and it came from the Bears’ archrival.

Offensive lineman Barrett Miller, a four-year starter at Stanford, is transferring to Cal, Cal announced Sunday.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Miller was a key member of the Cardinal’s offensive line for four seasons, but since one of those years was the pandemic-shortened 2020 season that did not count against a player’s college eligibility, he has one more year of college eligibility remaining.

And Cal needs help along the offensive line, which was considered the biggest weakness on the team in 2022, when the Bears finished 10th in the Pac-12 in both points per game and yards per game.

Miller also brings versatility and could play several positions on the offensive line, although he mostly played left guard.

He made 30 starts at Stanford, including eight starts as a true freshman in 2019, six starts in 2020 when Stanford played just six games, 12 starts in 2021, and four starts this past season when he appeared in nine games.

Miller allowed just five sacks in his career at Stanford, which is significant because the Cardinal generally has not given its quarterbacks much protection in recent years.

He becomes the third offensive lineman Cal has added since the end of last season. Texas A&M transfer Matthew Wykoff and junior college transfer Martin Tine are also joining the Bears’ roster for the 2023 season.
