Cal added to its coaching staff this week with the hiring of Hawaii graduate assistant Winterhawk Leighton as an assistant offensive line coach for the Golden Bears.

Leighton announced the hiring on social media on Friday. At Cal Leighton will work alongside Mike Bloesch, who is Cal's offensive coordinator as well as the Bears' offensive line coach.

Leighton has been a graduate assistant at Hawaii the past two seasons after being a graduate assistant briefly at Idaho State, where he worked with the offensive line.

Leighton played his college football at Central Washington, and he began his coaching career as a student assistant at Central Washington in 2020, working with the offensive line.

He then coached the running backs and was recruiting coordinator in 2021 at Central Washington.

He spent the 2022 spring season at Idaho State, where he was an offensive graduate assistant before joining Hawai‘i in the fall of 2022.
