Cal Scheduled to Play Oregon State in Football in 2024 and 2025
Cal has completed its nonconference football schedule for 2024 with a home game against Oregon State on September 28, Cal announced Thursday.
The Golden Bears will also play Oregon State in 2025, but that game will be in Corvallis, Oregon, on August 30, 2025.
The Golden Bears already had already scheduled three nonconference games for next season -- August 31 at home against UC Davis, September 7 on the road against Auburn and September 14 at home against San Diego State.
But Cal is joining the Atlantic Coast Conference next season, and ACC teams play only eight conference games while Pac-12 teams played nine conference games in 2023. So as result, Cal had to schedule another nonconference game.
That 2024 nonconference foe will be Oregon State, which is one of two teams (along with Washington State) that will remain in the Pac-12 (commonly called the Pac-2 now).
The Beavers will play seven Mountain West conference opponents in 2024 as well as games against Oregon (September 14), Idaho State, Purdue, Washington State and Cal.
What makes the Golden Bears' September 28, 2024, game against Oregon State a little unusual is that Cal will be hosting Oregon State for the second straight season. Oregon State beat Cal 52-40 this season in what was quarterback Fernando Mendoza's first collegiate start.
Oregon (8-4) is No. 19 in the final CFP rankings, and plays Notre Dame in the Sun Bowl.
The Beavers will be a much different team in 2024. Head coach Jonathan Smith left to become the head coach at Michigan State, and he was replaced by Trent Bray, who was elevated to the head coaching position after being the Beavers' defensive coordinator this season.
Also Oregon starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei as well as backup quarterback Aidan Chiles entered the transfer portal. (Chiles is transferring to Michigan State, Uiagalelei has not committed yet).
Cal may have a new quarterback next year too. North Texas quarterback Chandler Rogers announced that he is transferring to Cal for next season, and his impressive 2023 numbers suggest he has a good chance to beat out Fernando Mendoza for the starting job in 2024. Rogers will be a grad transfer, and grad transfers typically expect to play at their new school.
Oregon State's all-conference running back Damien Martinez presumably will be back next season, but he was suspended for the Beavers' bowl game because of a DUI arrest. There has been no indication yet that he will enter the transfer portal.
Cal will face Florida State, Stanford, Miami, North Carolina State, Syracuse, SMU, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest in ACC games next season, but the dates have not been set. For Cal's ACC opponents for the next seven years, click here.
