Former Cal WR Kekoa Crawford Signs With Chiefs

Crawford's improved 40 times at Cal Pro Day drew interest from Kansas City

Former Cal wide receiver Kekoa Crawford is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster after a successful tryout at mandatory minicamp.

It appears that a good showing at Cal’s Pro Day in March drew interest from the Chiefs. Crawford recorded times of 4.42 seconds and 4.44 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the Pro Day, and both were significant improvements over his times a year earlier in the 2022 Cal Pro Day.

Crawford was one of the 51 players invited to try out at the Chiefs’ rookie minicamp in May. The team then invited him back to the mandatory minicamp last week. Crawford’s showing there prompted the Chiefs to agree to sign him late last week.

Crawford’s final season at Cal was 2021, and he signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2022. However, Indianapolis released him early in training camp. He has yet to play in an NFL game.

Crawford, 25, still has a long way to go to earn a berth on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster to start to the 2023 regular season. But having a chance to play for the reigning Super Bowl champs and catch passes from reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes is worth a try.

Crawford played three seasons at Cal after transferring from Michigan. His best season was 2021 as a fifth-year player when he had 40 receptions for 513 yards with no touchdowns.
