Brock Purdy's Younger Brother Says Cal Has Offered Him a Scholarship
Could Brock Purdy’s little brother join the Cal quarterback room?
Chubba Purdy, who spent the past two seasons at Nebraska, has entered the transfer portal and announced on social media he has received an offer from Cal.
The Bears have three scholarship quarterbacks in the fold right now, having signed North Texas transfer Chandler Rogers and Seattle-area high 3-star prospect EJ Caminong this past week.
Cal coach Justin Wilcox on signing day indicated the Bears likely would try to add one more quarterback to augment and/or compete with redshirt freshman starter Fernando Mendoza.
Could that become Purdy?
The younger sibling of the 49ers’ quarterback is a native of Queens Creek, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, and a redshirt sophomore with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Purdy also said he’s received offers from TCU, led by former Cal coach Sonny Dykes, and North Texas. Boise State has been mentioned as another possible destination,
You have to wonder if Cal's proximity to Brock Purdy's work address favors the Bears during the recruiting process?
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound dual-threat QB, originally a four-star recruit out of Perry High School, began his college days at Florida State. The 22-year-old played two seasons for the Seminoles before moving on to Nebraska, where he started the final two games in 2023.
He completed 15 of 24 passes for 169 yards with a touchdown and an interception and rushed 14 times for 105 yards and a score in the Cornhuskers’ 24-17 overtime loss to Wisconsin. He then was 15 of 28 for 189 yards with a TD and a pick along with 42 rushing yards in a 13-10 loss to Iowa.

At FSU, he saw action in four games, completing 32 of 58 (55.2%) for 317 yards with four TDs and just one pick and 62 rushing yards.
In high school, Purdue was ranked as the nation’s No. 6 dual-threat quarterback by 247Sports Composite.
He had more than 9,000 yards of total offense and 111 touchdowns in two seasons as Perry’s starter. Purdy had 4,423 yards of total offense and 52 touchdowns as a senior, when he was the Arizona Offensive Player of the Year. The year before he threw for 3,425 yards and 36 TD while rushing for 1,152 yards and 23 scores.
Chubba Purdy's official first name is Preston, but his father nicknamed him Chubba when he weighed in at 38 pounds as a one-year-old. And the name stuck.
In addition to big brother Brock Purdy, who played at Iowa State before emerging as a star with the 49ers, his father, Shawn Purdy, played baseball at Miami and in the minor leagues.
