Former Cal offensive tackle Jake Curhan signed a one-year, free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears on Monday, reuniting him with new Bears offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

Waldron was with the Seattle Seahawks the past three years, when Curhan was on the Seahawks’ active roster.

The 6-foot-6, 316-pound Curhan, 26, appeared in 29 games with nine starts the past three seasons with the Seahawks. He initially signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2021.

Curhan made four starts in 2023 and allowed three sacks and 22 pressures at right tackle in those starts. Pro Football Focus gave him a poor, 39.2 pass-blocking grade, but he has shown potential as a run blocker. He also offers versatility, having also played both guard spots.

Curhan made five starts as a rookie in 2021, and played in just four games with no starts in 2022.

He will need to perform well in preseason camp to make the 53-man regular-season roster, but his familiarity with Waldron’s system may help.

Curhan is one of three former Cal players currently on the Bears’ preseason roster, joining wide receiver Keenan Allen and safety Elijah Hicks.

At Cal, Curhan redshirted his freshman year, then started every game the next three seasons.  In his final Cal season in 2020, which was shorted to four games because of the pandemic, Curhan started two games and missed the other two because Covid contact tracing.
