Quarterback EJ Caminong Commits to Cal Football Recruiting Class of 2024

Three-star Seattle prospect chooses Cal two weeks after de-committing from Washington.

Quarterback EJ Caminong, who de-committed from Washington two weeks ago, announced on social media Tuesday he will join Cal’s 2024 recruiting class.

A 6-foot-2, 195-pounder from Garfield High School, Caminong committed to Cal after making a weekend campus recruiting visit. He is the ninth high school player in the ’24 class to commit to Cal, the fifth in a span of 10 days.

"The coaches, school, and network were all big factors in my decision," Caminong told Golden Bear Report. "Getting around the players and coaches again was big for me.”

Caminong had originally committed to his home-town university on Oct. 26, 2022 but he changed his mind on June 27 after visiting Texas A&M.

Cal, meanwhile, continued to pursue Caminong and his high school teammate, Rahshawn Clark, a 3-star athlete who is projected as a wide receiver in college. Clark has not yet committed to a school.

Caminong statement

Caminong chose the Bears over A&M, BYU, Colorado, Oregon State and Washington State.

After committing to UW last fall, Caminong described his skillset in an interview with the Seattle Times.

“Personally, I think I’m capable of doing everything,” he told the Times. “I like to throw first, 100%. I can stand in the pocket and make a throw down the field or I can get out and create. I look at myself as a playmaker, whether that’s with my arm or with my feet. I feel like I can do a lot of things.”

Caminong is rated a 3-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports, which ranks him as the No. 8 prospect in the state of Washington and the No. 37 quarterback in the country.

Caminong is the first quarterback in the Cal class of 2024.
