Cal Football: Freshman Offensive Lineman Jackson Brown Enters Transfer Portal

Bears lose young local player who exited spring ball as a No. 2 offensive tackle.

In something of a surprise move, Cal freshman offensive tackle Jackson Brown announced Thursday he will enter the transfer portal.

Brown, a 6-foot-6, 305-pounder from San Ramon Valley High in Danville, exited spring ball listed as the No. 2 left tackle behind projected junior starter Brayden Rohme.

Brown announced his decision on social media.

“This decision was not easy to make, but it’s in the best interest of my future,” he said.

Brown played in one game as a true freshman last fall, seeing action off the bench against USC as a guard.

Offensive line is one of the Bears’ trouble spots, so losing a young player seemingly with a promising future would seem to be a setback.

Coach Justin Wilcox brought in Mike Bloesch from North Texas as Cal’s new offensive line coach this offseason.

Brown was a consensus three-star prospect out of high school, a two-time all-state selection for San Ramon Valley teams that twice played the CIF North Coast Section playoffs during his varsity career.
