Keenan Allen Wows Audience as The Masked Singer
This is old news for those who are up to date on pop culture, but it remains a revelation to those who thought they knew former Cal standout and current Los Angeles Chargers star Keenan Allen.
On April 26, Allen was revealed as the Gargoyle on The Masked Singer television program.
And the dude can sing!
Allen wowed the audience with his singing, and admitted he is a fan of the show.
"I love the show. I've seen a bunch of people do it before like T-Pain and Teyana Taylor and just kind of fell in love with their performances," he said, according to MARCA.com. "I always wanted to do it. I was wanting to be a part of that experience and, obviously, wanted to show my music side. I have kind of a split personality that goes into a different atmosphere, and being able to shed a light on that side of me is great."
Allen plans to pursue music in the future.
"Absolutely. I'm doing that as we speak," he said, according to MARCA.com.
It may be awhile before he ends his paying job as a wide receiver in the NFL.
He played three seasons at Cal (2010 through 2012) and finished with 205 receptions for 2,570 receiving yards and 17 receiving touchdowns and two rushing TDs.
Allen is now 31 years old and preparing for his 11th NFL season. He was selected for the Pro Bowls in five consecutive seasons from 2017 through 2021. The streak ended last season when he missed seven games because of injury, but still had 66 catches for 752 yards.
With Allen healthy and quarterback Justin Herbert on the verge of becoming a star, the Chargers may have something special in 2023.
But now Allen may have something to fall back on when his football career is over.
He has been singing since he was 8 years old, performing with the gospel choir at his church and the chorus in middle school.
He said it was difficult to perform in the Gargoyle costume, which made it hard to breathe.
