Idaho Transfer CB Marcus Harris Commits to Cal
One day after Cal's disappointing showing in the Independence Bowl, the Golden Bears got a commitment from Idaho transfer cornerback Marcus Harris, who was a first-team all-Big Sky conference selection this season.
Harris announced is commitment to Cal via social media on Sunday.
Harris is the second player from an FCS school that has committed to Cal for next season. UC Davis linebacker Teddye Buchanan committed to Cal a few weeks ago. Cal has received commitments from four transfers overall, with Harris and Buchanan being joined by North Texas grad transfer quarterback Chandler Rogers and Notre Dame grad transfer defensive tackle Aidan Keanaaina.
Cal got a good look at Harris this season when the Bears played the Vandals back on September 16. Harris was a starting cornerback in that game and recorded two tackles and one pass breakup in a contest won by Cal 31-17.
In 2023, Harris was fifth on the team in tackles for 51, which included 5.5 tackles for losses. More importantly, Harris recorded three interceptions and 10 pass breakups.
Harris was a second-team all-Big Sky selection in 2022, when he had 53 tackles, two interceptions, 12 pass breakups and one forced fumble.
As a redshirt freshman on 2021, he had eight pass breakups and an interception, giving him six interceptions and 30 pass breakups in his three seasons with the Vandals.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Harris began his college career at Oregon State, but he transferred to Idaho in February 2021 and spent the past three seasons with the Vandals, presumably leaving him with one season of college eligibility.
The secondary has always been the strength of Cal's defense since Justin Wilcox has been the Bears' head coach, but they may need help at several positions in the defensive backfield in 2024.
A pick-six this season in below, and a scoop and score below that in 2022.
