Cal Football: Texas Prep Offensive Lineman Tyler Knape Commits

He becomes the Bears' second commit to the recruiting Class of 2024.

Cal added a commitment from a second player in its recruiting class of 2024 when offensive lineman Tyler Knape announced on social media he will play next season for the Golden Bears.

Knape, a 6-foot-4, 275-pounder from Westlake High in Austin, Texas, had most recently visited the Cal campus two Saturdays ago to watch the Bears’ spring game.

He is the first offensive lineman committed to Cal since the arrival of new position coach Mike Bloesch, who coached last season at North Texas. Bloesch also had a background coaching high school ball in Texas.

Knape is not rated by either Rivals or 247Sports, two major recruiting sites, but he carries a 3.8 grade-point average and was a first-team 6A all-state selection last season, according to his Twitter site.

Also named to the All-Central Texas first team, Knape chose Cal over offers from Arizona State, Air Force, Fordham, Old Dominion and three Ivy League schools, Columbia, Penn and Princeton.

He joins Camden Jones, a 3-star tight end from Pasadena High in Pasadena, Calif., in Cal’s 2024 recruiting class. Jones, who is 6-6, 228 pounds, committed to the Bears back on Dec. 5.
