Packers No Longer the Betting Favorite to Retain Aaron Rodgers

Former Cal QB Rodgers says he will soon attend a retreat with four days of complete isolation and darkness to decide his NFL future. Odds for Rodgers' next team are changing by the hour.

The betting odds on where former Cal standout Aaron Rodgers will be playing next season seem to change by the day, even by the hour, and the latest odds posted by DraftKings provide the stunning news that Rodgers’ current team, the Green Bay Packers, are no longer the favorites to have Rodgers on hand to start the 2023 season. Now the Raiders are heavy favorites to land Rodgers.

But things change by the hour.  The Jets were the second-favorite, according to DraftKings, on Monday night and the Packers third, but the Packers moved into the second-favorite spot, ahead of the Jets, by Tuesday evening. See the odds below.

------------------------------------------------------

Rodgers' Isolation Retreat: Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday that soon after the Super Bowl he will go to an isolation retreat to experience four days of complete darkness all by himself to provide self-reflection and help him decide whether he will retire.  See the video at the bottom of this story to hear Rodgers talk about it.

-------------------------------------------------------

All along it was assumed that if Rodgers did not retire – his decision in expected in the next few weeks – he was likely to be Green Bay’s starting quarterback in 2023. The reports that the Packers might be willing to trade Rodgers initiated speculation about teams that might be willing to trade for Rodgers, but the most likely scenario still was that the Packers would retain Rodgers for at least one more season.

What the Packers actually have in mind for Rodgers is unclear, but at least one oddsmaker, reflecting the betting of gamblers, for the first time no longer has the Packers as the favorite to be Rodgers’ team in 2023. Instead, the Raiders have been made the overwhelming betting favorite to land Rodgers, presumably based on the quotes from Davante Adams and Rodgers over the weekend.

The Packers are not even the second favorite in DraftKings’ odds, with the New York Jets holding down the second-favorite spot. The Packers are listed as the third favorite at +600, which translates to a 14.29% probability that he’ll be with Green Bay. Meanwhile, the -450 odds that Rodgers will land with Las Vegas suggests an 81.82% probability, based on recent wagering, that he will be the Raiders’ starting quarterback when the 2023 season begins.

These odds are likely to change with each bit of news that surfaces, and will take on increased interest if Rodgers announces he will play next season. The best site to check for updates on the odds on Rodgers’ 2023 team is the SI site Packer Central.

Here are DraftKings odds from early Tueday for which team Rodgers will play for in 2023:

Las Vegas Raiders: -450, or 2-to-9, or 81.82% probability.

New York Jets: +350, or 7-to-2, or 22.22% probability

Green Bay Packers: +600, or 6-to-1, or 14.29% probability

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: +1500, or 15-to-1, or 6.25% probability

San Francisco 49ers: +2000, or 20-to-1

New England Patriots: +2000, or 20-to-1

Tennessee Titans: +2000, or 20-to-1

Washington Commanders: +2000, or 20-to-1

Carolina Panthers: +2500, or 25-to-1

Indianapolis Colts: +2500, or 25-to-1

Miami Dolphins: +5000, or 50-to-1

But here are the odds for the top three teams as of Tuesday evening:

Las Vegas Raiders: -390, or approximately 1-to-4, or 79.59% probability

Green Bay Packers: +300, or 3-to-1, or 25% probability

New York Jets: +600, or 6-to-1, or 14.29% probability

Aaron Rodgers' 40-minute session on Tuesday's Pat McAfee Show begins two hours and four minues into the video below.  Rodgers  discusses his golf-course comment about not going to the 49ers, thoughts on Tom Brady's retirement and his Super Bowl prediction.  He also said there is "a lot of fake news" out there. "Just bull----." His discussion about his planned four-night, total-darkness isolation retreat is interesting.
