Cal Football: Bears Release First Two-Deep As Spring Ball Comes to an End

The chart does not reflect players who sat out this spring but will return in the fall.

Cal released its first depth chart this spring, just prior to Saturday afternoon's Spring Showcase scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.

There are not a lot of surprises on the two-deep, but it's important to note that players who did not participate in the 15 spring workouts are not included in this edition. In other words, the depth chart we see before the Bears' Sept. 2 opener at North Texas will look substantially different.

For instance, defensive lineman Brett Johnson and center Matthew Cindric, among others, are not listed anywhere on the chart. Both spent the spring rehabbing injuries from last season,

Most positions remain fluid, but it's interesting that the coaching staff has returned junior Lu-Magia Hearns III to a starting cornerback role after he missed seven games last season, the final six due to abdominal and groin injuries.

Newcomer Nohl Williams, a transfer from UNLV, is penciled in at the other corner spot, ahead of Isaiah Young, who played well late last season after filling in for Hearns.

Williams is one of five mid-year arrivals who are listed in starting roles, joining tight end J.T. Byrne, outside linebacker David Reese, inside linebacker Sergio Allen and nickel Matthew Littlejohn.
