Cal Football: Transfer Tackle Brayden Rohme Finds a New Home at UMass
Offensive lineman Brayden Rohme, who entered the transfer portal immediately after the close of the regular season but stuck around to dress for the Independence Bowl, has found a new college football home: UMass.
Rohme, a backup tackle, made the announcement Friday on social media.
A 6-foot-6, 290-pound fifth-year junior from Chandler, Arizona, Rohme started 15 games for the Bears but none this season, when he was listed as the No. 2 at left tackle behind Stanford transfer Barrett Miller.
Rohme played in 10 games off the bench this season but did not play against Texas Tech in the bowl game. He started nine times — six at left tackle, three at right tackle — in 2022 and saw action in a total of 36 games during his career with the Bears.
Rohme earned his bachelor’s degree in legal studies last spring.
UMass, which plays an independent FBS schedule, was 3-9 this season and featured one of the worst defenses in the country. The Minutemen allowed 454 points or 37.8 per game.
UMass is best known for basketball, the alma mater of Julius Erving, Marcus Camby and Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino. Hockey star Jonathan Quick also attended UMass, as did U.S. soccer star Briana Scurry.
Singer Natalie Cole attended the school, along with actors Richard Gere and Bill Pullman.
The school's most famous football alum is former Pro Bowl wide receiver Victor Cruz
