Cal lost kicker Mateen Bhaghani to the transfer portal earlier this week, but the Bears picked up a kicker through the portal on Thursday.

North Carolina graduate transfer kicker Ryan Coe announced on social media on Thursday that he has committed to Cal. Coe won't change conferences because Cal joins the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2024.

Coe, who had been a second-team, all-conference kicker at Cincinnati in 2022, began the 2023 season as North Carolina's place-kicker. But he suffered a lower-body injury early in the season and played in only the first two games.  He was 3-for-4 on field-goal attempts with a long of 47 yards.  His replacement, Noah Burnette, was 18-for-19 on field goals last season and has another year of eligibility.

Coe had been a productive place-kicker at Cincinnati and Delaware before coming to North Carolina.

In 2022, he was a second-team All-American Athletic Conference selection for Cincinnati.  That season he was 19-of-23 on field goals with a long of 52 yards, and he made all 44 PATs. He set Cincinnati's single-season record for field goal accuracy.

In his three seasons at Delaware, Coe made 26-of-34 field goals with a long of 54 yards and converted all 47 PATs. His 54-yard field goal was the longest in a playoff game in program history.

Coe was a two-time All-CAA performer at Delaware, and he was also a two-time CAA Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree.
