JUCO All-America Forward Jeff Nwankwo Commits to Cal

Jeff Nwankwo was a first-team junior college All-America selection at Cowley Community College

Mark Madsen has dipped into the junior college ranks to help rebuilt his basketball roster at Cal.

Jeff Nwankwo, a first-team NJCAA All-American from Cowley County Community College in Kansas, announced on social media on Saturday that he has committed to Cal.

The 6-foot-6 Nwankwo averaged 18.6 points and 7.6 rebounds this past season as a sophomore.  In 2022-23, he missed much of the first half of the season with injuries, but he played 19 games and averaged 10.7 points.

He was a 37% three-point shooter as a sophomore.

He started his college athletic career as a football player at Tulane, but after one season of football he opted to try basketball and transferred to Cowley County Community Colleg.

After his first season at Cowley, Nwankwo signed with Marist.  However, he never attended Marist and returned to Cowley for the 2023-24 season.

The JUCO Recruiting site ranked Nwankwo as the seventh-best junior college player in the country for the 2023-24 season.

Arkansas, Colorado, Mississippi, LSU and Arizona State were among the other schools that offered Nwankwo, and Kansas had also shown interest.
