Cal Advances to NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships

No. 7 Golden Bears finish first in Pittburgh Regional Final, ahead of second-seeded Florida

Seventh-seeded Cal advanced to the NCAA women's gymnastics championships by finishing first in the Pittsburgh Regional Final Sunday evening.

The Bears did even better than expected finishing first in its four-team Regional Final, ahead of second-seeded Florida. The top two finishers from each of the four Regionals advance to the NCAA championship semifinals next weekend in Fort Worth, Texas.

UCLA, Utah, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Denver and LSU will join Cal and Florida in the NCAA championships.

Cal finished first in the Pittsburgh Regional with a team score of 197.975.  Florida was second with a 197.800. Michigan State was third at 197.650 and Arizona State was fourth with a score of 197.475.

Florida star Trinity Thomas missed the competition with an injury.

Cal's eMjae Frazier won the floor exercise with a score od 9.975 in the Bears' final rotation to finish off  the win.
