Cal Baseball: Rodney Green Jr. Secures Spot on USA Collegiate Team Roster

His .588 on-base percentage in four intrasquad tryout games was tops on both teams.

Cal sophomore outfielder Rodney Green Jr. was selected Thursday to the USA Collegiate National Team after four days of intrasquad exhibition game tryouts.

Green, from the East Bay community of Richmond, will join the USA college squad for a pair of five-game series against Chinese Taipei and Japan, beginning Friday and running through July 12 at sites throughout North Carolina.

“After the most talented and competitive training camp, the staff completed a grueling selection process to get to the final roster today,” said USA manager Larry Lee. “Our roster is full of extremely talented and capable baseball players, and we are focused on representing the United States well in international competition.”

Green made the roster after compiling a .588 on-base percentage, tops on both the Stars and Stripes teams that faced off in four exhibition games Sunday through Wednesday.

He batted .300 (3-for-10), including a triple, but also drew five walks and was twice hit by pitches, meaning he reached base 10 times in 17 plate appearances. Green also scored two runs, drove in and was 3-for-6 on stolen-base attempts.

He is the 10th Cal player to land a spot on the USA collegiate team, most recently following Andrew Vaughn in 2019.

Green was an all-Pac-12 selection this season after batting .291 with career-best totals in hits (49), doubles (9), home runs (14), RBI (37), and stolen bases (28).

He was second in the Pac-12 with his 28 stolen bases and was among six players in the conference with double-digit totals in both stolen bases and home runs.
