CINCINNATI — Former Xavier head coach Chris Mack is back. Mack has agreed to a deal with the University of Charleston according to Jeff Goodman.

Mack was Xavier's head men's basketball coach from 2009-18, posting a 215-97 record, which included eight NCAA Tournament appearances. He also had a 6-3 record against the Bearcats in the Crosstown Shootout.

He left for Louisville following the 2018 campaign, but lasted less than four seasons and only made the NCAA Tournament once, posting a 63-36 record.

Pat Kelsey left Charleston to take the Louisville job. He was officially introduced on Friday. That cleared the way for Mack to return to coaching after making it clear that he wanted to return.

"For the first time since the whole Louisville time, I'm going to look at the options and see what's out there, and see if it’s a good fit. And if it is, it's probably something that I'll end up jumping back into” Mack said last month. “I’ve learned a lot from the two coaching jobs that I was fortunate enough to be a part of so you know we will see.”

Mack is back and he's hoping to rebound after a disappointing end at Louisville.
