CINCINNATI — All the momentum from UC football's 5-2 start has washed away amidst a four-game losing streak entering the final game of the season. The Athletic's latest 1-134 FBs ranking reflects that. Chris Vannini has Cincinnati at No. 62 nationally after ranking them 59th last week.

A mediocre team near the bottom of the Power Conference hierarchy, that's what Cincinnati's been this season. It's an improvement from last season, but it doesn't feel like the team's improved at all since the calendar turned to October.

Now, context is important, UC had a 5.5 season win total entering this campaign and can beat those odds and achieve bowl eligibility with an upset win at home Saturday. A win has never felt more important in building momentum for this era. Losing five in a row and missing a bowl bid would be disastrous.
