Report: Bearcats Offered Head Football Coaching Position
CINCINNATI — The Bearcats are close to naming a 43rd head football coach.
According to Su'a Cravens, Cincinnati has already offered their top candidate the job but Cravens did not want to reveal the name.
"Hearing Cincinnati has offered who they want as their new headman and the job is his to take," Cravens tweeted. "He’s just gotta pull the trigger! I’m not going to say names because it’s still pretty new, so I don’t want to stir the pot too much but Cincy working behind the scenes!"
Adding more fuel to the building fire, The Athletic's Justin Williams reports that Cincinnati is down to Buffalo head coach Mo Linguist and Kent State head coach Sean Lewis as it's top candidates.
Current offensive coordinator Gino Guidugli is out of the running.
"Cincinnati OC and former #Bearcats star QB Gino Guidugli is no longer in contention for the head job and is not expected to remain on UC’s staff to coach the bowl game," Williams tweeted. "There could still be other finalists—Cunningham continues to keep a tight lid on this search."
Those aren't necessarily the only candidates. Athletic director John Cunningham has historically kept these decisions under wraps very well.
We'll find out soon enough whether a MAC head coach is taking over for Luke Fickell.
