Shannon Sharpe Declares Travis Kelce as Greatest Tight End in NFL History

The Cincinnati product is playing in his fourth Super Bowl this weekend.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe knows a thing or two about what makes a great player at the position and he has Travis Kelce getting a slight edge over Rob Gronkowski as the greatest tight end in NFL history.

Sharpe discussed the debate on radio row ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.

"Right now he's the GOAT based on what he's been able to do," Sharpe said to Sports Illustrated about the former Cincinnati tight end. "The longevity he's enjoyed. He has the most playoff catches. He and Patrick (Mahomes) have the most playoff touchdowns between a duo and you look at the consistency. The year-in, year-out consistency. It's just hard for me to say somebody has done it as good, as long as Travis."

Kelce and Gronkowski have been great, but one other name needs recognition in this debate: Tony Gonzalez. He's the only tight end with six first-team All-Pro selections and posted a whopping 15,127 receiving yards (first among all TEs). Kelce is fourth all-time with 11,328 yards.

Funny enough, he just recently passed Sharpe on the all-time receiving yards list for tight ends.
