Former Xavier Head Coach Chris Mack Open to Returning to Coaching: 'I Miss It'

Mack hasn't coached since being fired by Louisville during the 2022 season.

Former Xavier and Louisville head coach Chris Mack is open to returning to the court.

Mack shared the news in an exclusive interview with FOX19.

"For the first time since the whole Louisville time, I'm going to look at the options and see what's out there, and see if it’s a good fit. And if it is, it's probably something that I'll end up jumping back into” Mack said. “I’ve learned a lot from the two coaching jobs that I was fortunate enough to be a part of so you know we will see.”

Mack was Xavier's head men's basketball coach from 2009-18, posting a 215-97 record, which included eight NCAA Tournament appearances. He also had a 6-3 record against the Bearcats in the Crosstown Shootout.

He left four Louisville following the 2018 campaign, but lasted less than four seasons and only made the NCAA Tournament once, posting a 63-36 record.

"I need a purpose. More than just working out and hanging out with my son and I miss it," Mack said. "There is some things I really miss about the game and about being part of a team, day in and day out. And so I’ve really enjoyed the time away. I think I’ve learned a whole lot, studied a lot of basketball and so again, we'll see, it may not happen, but we'll see.”
