Houston Cougars Hold Off Cincinnati Bearcats 67-62 at Fifth Third Arena

Cincinnati falls to 15-8 on the season.

CINCINNATI — The Bearcats rallied, but it wasn't enough to knock off No. 5 Houston, as the Cougars held on for a 67-62 win at Fifth Third Arena on Saturday. 

Cincinnati trailed for most of the second half, but cut Houston's lead to 61-59 with 1:41 remaining. 

The Cougars hit multiple contested shots down the stretch, including a fadeaway by LJ Cryer that gave Houston a 63-59 lead with 1:13 left. 

The Bearcats fall to 15-8 on the season and 4-6 in the Big 12. They've lost 10-straight games to Houston. 

Dan Skillings Jr. led Cincinnati with 13 points, including nine in the first half. Cincinnati ended the first half on a 15-2 run. They took a 32-29 lead into the locker room, but Houston grabbed the lead early in the second half. 

John Newman had 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Bearcats were outrebounded by the Cougars 41-34, which is a big reason why the lost. Houston had 69 shot attempts to Cincinnati's 51. 

The Bearcats host No. 14 Iowa State on Tuesday at Fifth Third Arena at 6:30 p.m. ET.
