Houston's Marcus Sasser out for Season With Foot Injury

The guard is averaging 17.7 points per game this season.

CINCINNATI — The Houston Cougars got a double dose of bad news over the holiday weekend. They canceled Tuesday's AAC opener against Cincinnati, and now the Cougars' leading scorer is out for the season.

Marcus Sasser announced the foot injury news on his Instagram. The guard is averaging 17.7 points per game and shooting a blistering 43.7 3-point shooting percentage. That is the second-highest mark in the country among players attempting at least nine threes per game.

The marksman had already posted four games with 25-plus points. Half of Kelvin Sampson's top-four scorers are now out for the year. Tramon Mark recently suffered a serious shoulder injury.

Houston is a deep team, but the loss of Sasser's shooting and leadership is a big blow. The AAC is a little more open now that the Cougars have so many COVID question marks and a season-ending injury to its best player. They own the conference's top record at 11-2, with Cincinnati (10-3) right behind them.
