CINCINNATI — The Bearcats were ranked sixth in the first College Football Playoff Ranking of the season.

Cincinnati is a perfect 8-0, but a one possession win over Navy and a sluggish start against Tulane didn't help their case for a top four spot according to the College Football Playoff Committee.

Georgia is No. 1, followed by Alabama, Michigan State, Oregon and Ohio State.

"I think it's great. I mean you're in the top six and I think that's the way you gotta look at it," Bearcats head coach Luke Fickell told Dan Hoard on Tuesday night. "Maybe some believe we should be at a different spot, maybe higher, maybe lower. The reality is that's where you are. There's four to five weeks [left] in the season. We know we've got a long way to go, we've got some things we need to prove, maybe to college football, but to ourselves as well. There's still a lot of ball to be played, there's a lot of fluctuation that's going to happen, I think to most of the teams in the top 15. No matter what you just want to be there at the end and that's what's gonna be our focus."

It's Homecoming Week for the Bearcats as Cincinnati hosts Tulsa on Saturday at Nippert Stadium.
