5-Star QB Jadyn Davis Commits to Michigan
Opportunities to land 5-star quarterbacks only come so often. Unfortunately for Clemson, it looks as if they will have to turn their sights to the next guy in line as Jadyn Davis gave his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines today. This is a big get for Jim Harbaugh and a frustrating day for Dabo Swinney who had been recruiting Davis for over 2 years now.
The North Carolina MaxPreps and Gatorade Player of the Year had some close ties with the Tigers that got them in his top 5 alongside Ohio State, North Carolina, Tennessee, and the eventual winners in Michigan. Unfortunately, some of those ties departed before Davis could even have a chance to step foot on campus.
Around this time last year, as Jadyn's recruitment was really picking up, the QB gave his thoughts on his visit with the Tigers to The Clemson Insider and said, “It was great. Just always talking to Coach (Brandon) Streeter. He didn’t leave my side one bit. I got to go there with my new high school head coach (Chad Grier). Me and D.J. (Uiagalelei) have a really good relationship, so seeing him again, just always building chemistry and connection with the guys and just building a relationship with the coaches.” Yes, that would be the same D.J. who just transferred to Oregon State and the same Coach Streeter who now works for Kirby Smart at the University of Georgia.
Streeter leaving may have had the biggest impact as he said in that same interview. “Me and Coach Streeter are probably closer than Coach Swinney because we’ve had more conversations,” Davis said. “He remembers me in fifth grade coming to camp. So we always talk about that, joke about that. We have a great relationship.”
There's no telling who the North Carolina native would have picked even if Streeter had remained, but if Riley has the impact most think he will then Clemson fans won't have much reason to bemoan Dabo's decision. With that being said, Clemson badly wanted this one and we'll all have to wait and see who they turn their eyes to now.
