While the 2023 offense for Clemson will have plenty of questions to answer, the 2023 defense, specifically the front 7, will only be answering to the reputation the program has already created for itself. Tyler Davis may have been the defensive representative at ACC Kickoff but it's a couple of linebackers in Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Barrett Carter that will have offensive coordinators scrambling to scheme against.

Adam Breneman, an analyst for the Big Ten Network and YouTube host, agrees with that sentiment. He proclaimed that Clemson will have not just the best linebacker duo in the country, but that the whole linebacker room will be better than anyone else's as well.

"Clemson's returning junior linebackers Barrett Carter and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the linebacker position", Breneman said on his YouTube channel. "But they also have plenty of young fresh talent waiting to get the chance to fully display their abilities on the field. And that includes sophomore Wade Woodaz, redshirt freshman Kobe McCloud, redshirt freshman TJ Dudley, and true freshman Jamal Anderson."

As Breneman stated there's not just top-end talent but real depth for this team to be excited about. The praise continued when he finished with the proclamation, "This linebacker room is going to cause headaches for offenses all over the ACC."

The sophomore to junior year growth is usually a big time of development for linebackers so it'll be a long year for opponents and an eye-popping year for NFL scouts if Carter and Trotter Jr. can improve upon the combined numbers of 162 total tackles, 12 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions and 13 pass deflections.
