Clemson Football: Dabo Swinney comments on Cade Klubnik's performance

Cade Klubnik threw for over three hundred yards and four touchdowns against Charleston Southern, but a couple of turnovers bit the Tigers.

It's not often a former 5-star quarterback making his home debut faces boobirds in the first quarter but for Clemson's Cade Klubnik, two turnovers in the first quarter of Clemson's 66-17 win over Charleston Southern had fans groaning after witnessing the Tigers give away the football three times to Duke on Monday.

Klubnik fumbled a ball that led to a one-yard scoring drive for Charleston Southern and threw a pick-six that gave the Buccaneers a 14-7 lead all in the first quarter. After that, Klubnik settled in and shredded the Charleston Southern defense, slinging four touchdowns. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney commented on his quarterback's play.

"We corrected a lot of mistakes and we were able to grow our team," said Swinney. "Obviously the two critical errors by Cade [Klubnik] kind of got us off to a bad start there in the first quarter, were in a hole but you know, it's not an easy position to play and you find out a lot about people when you hit a little adversity. As I always say "It either grinds you up or it shines you up" and the kid's made of the right things."

After 9 quarters of bad football (Tennessee & Duke), it would've been easy for Klubnik to fold, but the sophomore from Texas found his stride and battled back.

"I saw him respond, I mean, in a big way, you got a chance to see what he can do. Made some big plays with his legs and threw for 315, two touchdowns. Just settled in. And that's what we need. We just need... we're just just kind of settling down a little bit and that comes with playing and just really proud of how he bounced back and you know, just so many good things in the game."
