Clemson Football: Offensive Recap vs. Charleston Southern
There are plenty of Tiger fans furiously deleting, very understandable, social media posts after a more than frustrating first half of football which resulted in more careless turnovers that kept the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in the game far longer than they had any right to be.
However, after being down 14-7 following a Cade Klubnik pick-6, the team gathered itself, probably received a fair tongue-lashing in the locker room at halftime, and came out more than ready to take control of a game. Let's look at some final stats for Clemson's main offensive threats:
- Cade Klubnik finished with 315 yards passing on 28 completions out of 37 attempts with 4 touchdowns and 1 (bad) interception.
- Will Shipley ran for 73 yards on 9 carries which amounts to 8.1 yards a carry.
- Phil Mafah also received 9 carries and ran for 59 yards with 2 touchdowns.
- Beaux Collins was a stat today catching 7 balls for 137 yards and a touchdown that went for 69 yards.
- Antonio Williams was the early target for Klubnik as he caught both of the quarterback's 2 first-half touchdown passes. He finished with 5 catches for 64 yards and those 2 scores.
- Tony Stellato returned from injury to catch all 5 of his targets for 51 yards.
All in all, the final score looked a lot better for Clemson and was representative of the type of game this team expects to have. The early mistakes have to stop. This is the last opponent on the schedule where Klubnik and the Tiger will be able to get away with those types of plays. It's disappointing they happened in the first place given how last week went, but the hope now is that this offense was able to find confidence on their way to 66 points before facing Florida Atlantic next Saturday.
