Clemson Making Noise With 5-Star Receiver
The 2023 Clemson Tigers will have a fairly young wide receivers room this year with only two returning upperclassmen, junior Beaux Collins and redshirt senior Brannon Spector, expected to be in the two deep on the depth chart. With that said, you can never have enough elite talent at any position and Bryant Wesco out of Midlothian, Texas would be a major get for new offensive coordinator Garrett Riley and his unit.
Clemson was among the final 8 for Wesco, a list that also includes Oklahoma, TCU, LSU, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas, and Arkansas. While there are certainly some big-name schools on that list, it's interesting to see a top 8 for a premier recruit that doesn't include the likes of Georgia, Alabama, or Ohio State.
Wesco told Hayes Fawcett of On3 that when it came to Clemson, "Everyone was amazing and the culture was phenomenal." The rising senior accounted for 58 receptions for 1,160 yards and 14 touchdowns during his junior campaign despite being at a school that isn't traditionally pass-heavy. That season has led to a significant rise in recruiting databases across the country as the On3 Industry Ranking currently has him slotted as the 34 player overall and the 9th-best receiver. 247Sports actually have him even higher in their latest rankings update where they placed Bryant as the 9th overall player in the nation and 3rd best receiver.
Giving Wesco top-10 status will certainly draw more eyes to his developing recruitment, but he's always had plenty of people in his corner who believed in him. The wideout told reporters in an earlier interview that “(My trainer) kept telling me that if I kept training this way, I’d be one of the best players in the state. At first, I thought he was saying that just to say that. Now that I see it, I’m like, ‘Wow, I really am one of the best receivers in the state.’”
