No. 24 Clemson is just under an hour away from taking on South Carolina in their regular-season finale, but it's off-the-field news that is taking the internet by storm.

Per Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has emerged as a candidate to replace the fired Jimbo Fisher as Texas A&M's next head coach.

"A&M athletic director Ross Bjork said the Aggies intend to offer a heavily incentivized contract to whomever replaces the fired Jimbo Fisher, who failed to compete for an SEC title over his six seasons at A&M." wrote Zwerneman in the piece.

Swinney has come under fire from some in the Clemson fanbase for the team's regression over the past few seasons, but a move away from Clemson seems like a long shot. But with A&M's deep coffers, you can't ever count them out.

Earlier this year, Swinney became Clemson's all-time winningest coach, passing the legendary Frank Howard with 166 wins. In his time at Clemson, Swinney has led the Tigers to two College Football Playoff National Championships and has thoroughly dominated the ACC. However, after a rough start to the season, Swinney defended himself and the program from those who said the game had maybe passed him by, "I guess nobody has a sense of humor anymore around here. That's just kind of the world we live in. … It's freaking hard to win, and to win consistently is almost impossible - If people don't understand that, I can't help them. I just made a comment of, a little adversity along the way, you hate it, but the one positive is it makes you grow. You also learn who's with you, and that's good."

Meanwhile, Texas A&M is still looking to find sustained success in the SEC. Since joining the conference, the Aggies have yet to play in the SEC Championship Game.

Back in 2022, Dabo Swinney signed a new 10-year, $115 million contract with Clemson. If Texas A&M is going to lure him away, it'll be for an incredible sum of money.
