Trevor Lawrence hurt his shot at the Heisman Trophy in Thursday nights game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

At least, according to some of the national media—including Shannon Sharpe.

Skip Bayless appears to still believe in Lawrence, "I was weirdly impressed by Trevor Lawrence," Bayless said. "You want to talk about special; you want to talk about the 2021 NFL Draft? Some team is going to be very luck to have the worst record and 1st pick."

However many in the media are not so confident.

For those in the media looking for a reason(s) why the Tigers' sophomore signal caller is still the top player in college football even after a performance that included two interceptions, let's have a refresher.

"Started the final 11 games in 2018 as a true freshman in helping Clemson become the first major college football team in the modern era to go 15-0 … helped the squad win each of its last 10 games by 20 points or more … became the first true freshman quarterback to lead his team to a national title since 1985 … was a consensus freshman All-America honoree who earned a bevy of nation-wide and conference-wide honors for both his athletic and academic success … entered 2019 having previously completed 259-397 passes for 3,280 yards with 30 touchdowns and four interceptions as well as 60 carries for 177 yards and a touchdown in 768 snaps in 15 games (11 starts) … selected as a Preseason All-American for 2019 by Phil Steele (first-team and Preseason Player of the Year) and Athlon (second-team)."

I know, I know, but he threw TWO INTERCEPTIONS!

“The first pick, they just fooled us and did a great job there,” head coach Dabo Swinney said. “The second one, he was trying to throw it away and just didn’t get all of it...That one pick he didn't force it, we just didn't get good post snap confirmation...I got I got to see it you know before I can really tell you what happened because we all got fooled.

"Give them give them a attaboy they made a great play"

Okay, I understand the interceptions. But what about the fact he threw for only 168 yards and only 1 touchdown?

It was by design.

"Again it was a game where we just we just weren't gonna throw the ball," Swinney said. "We didn't have any opportunities. They they were just kind of sitting on things playing coverage, a lot of trap corners a lot of two safety and that was not what we thought they would do. So again, I think just will Clemson be patient running the ball? Can they run the ball? They outflanked us a few times. We're gonna run the ball between the tackles and and you know once we got it rolling it was it was a really good day."

So know that we have a better understanding of what happened, why it happened and what the reasons were behind some of the decisions, let's all take a deep breathe.

Trevor Lawrence is not washed up, a has-been or suffering a sophomore slump—he did what the coaching staff asked him to do and the Tigers are 1-0 after scoring a measly 52 points in the opening game of the season.
