Tyler Davis Explains Decision to Return to Clemson
Of all the acquisitions Clemson made this past year, signing a top-10 recruiting class, perhaps none were bigger than the return of Tyler Davis. Now entering his fifth season with Clemson, Davis has already been an All-ACC selection three times and is coming off of arguably his best season. He discussed what went into his decision to return.
“Thinking it over with my family. Just having guys like coach [Nick] Eason, Coach [Dennis] Love, tell me I could come back and maximize myself,” said Davis. “It just took a couple of minutes. I mean, I kind of figured, had a feeling, but we didn’t really know.”
Defensive tackles coach Nick Eason spoke about what Davis can improve on this spring. “The biggest thing he’s got to work on is technique and the fundamentals of the game, and just understanding the game and what to expect and when to expect it,” said Eason. “Situational football. We’ve talked about those things, just like I’ve talked about it with all our defensive linemen, ways to get better, as we’ve evaluated each guy up front. With him, just got to get better at using hands, eyes, and feet.”
With all that being said, Davis had received positive reviews from scouts about his game heading into the NFL Draft. He would’ve undoubtedly been selected, but we won’t know for sure where. Like many players, he requested a draft grade. So, what’d he think of his? “I liked it, but I felt like I still had some stuff in the tank here. That’s the real reason, and because I want to win a national championship.”
