What Dabo Swinney had to say after Clemson's 28-7 loss to Duke.

Dabo Swinney shares his thoughts following Clemson's opening loss.

Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney took to the podium following Clemson's 28-7 loss to Duke. Turnovers and mistakes plagued the Tigers. Here's what Swinney had to say.

"Well, first of all, congratulations to Duke and Coach Elko. I mean just obviously a huge win for them and they earned it. They deserve it. An incredibly disappointing loss. That's honestly, in all my years of football, I've never been a part of a game like that ever. And I've been here comes a long time. Since I've been the incomes we were 58 and 0 when we rush for 200 and pass for 200. That's usually a pretty good indicator. In Clemson history, 180 and 0, never lost ever."

"So you know what you got to finish. You got to finish it. Obviously, we did not do that. So many opportunities when you're on the one-yard line a couple of times in the red zone. Turnovers, three turnovers, couple of low blocked kicks. That really didn't give him a chance. But you know again, twice first and goal from the one, get your points. It's just it's really really disappointing. Really all you can say about it, but again, you gotta give them credit. They hung in there and they made plays again, a lot of yards and a lot of first downs but you know, we didn't make the critical plays when we needed to, to get the points."

"I mean, not the start we wanted but, you know, we gotta learn from it. Quick turnaround, we got another game here in a couple of days. So just gotta get back to work. I mean, you know, put our head down. Obviously, it's incredibly disappointing, you know, again for the start of the season, and there's people gonna see the score and make a judgment of our team. But I love this football team. I love this team. And I see a lot of opportunity. And so we got to stay together. We got to, again, we got to do the routine things and we just didn't do the basic routine things. It's critical situations that that really cost us but there's nothing we can do about it. Now we'll move forward and try to get a win this week. And just you know, put our head down and take them one at a time and, you know, look up, see if we can find a way to look back at the end of the season and say hey, man, that was a bad start and we had great finish."
