Buffaloes end four-game skid, squeaking past Huskies 68-62
The No. 13 Colorado Buffaloes knocked down the Washington Huskies 68-62 on Thursday night at the CU Events Center to end their four-game losing streak.
Following a woeful shooting night in Monday’s loss to UCLA, the Buffaloes shot just over 40 percent from the field against the Huskies. They found their rhythm offensively in the first quarter after senior guard Maddie Nolan knocked down her third 3-pointer with three minutes to go. She finished the first half with 14 of her game-high 20 points.
Despite Nolan’s shooting, Huskies forward Lauren Schwartz matched her performance on the other end, going three-for-three from beyond the arc in the opening quarter. However, the Buffs remained in control in the first half and were up 39-28 at the break.
Going into the second half, Colorado maintained a double-digit lead until the closing minutes of the game. Schwartz nailed a three-point shot with 3:54 remaining fourth quarter to cut the lead to 64-55. Even though the Huskies made the late effort to come back, CU held on for the win.
A trio of Buffs (21-7, 11-6, Pac-12) finished in double figures with Nolan leading the way. Frida Formann adding 12 and Aaronette Vonleh finishing with 10 points.
The Huskies (15-13, 5-12 Pac-12) were led by Schwartz with 18 points. Elle Ladine added 16 points, along with 13 each from Sayvia Sellers and Dalayah Daniels.
Colorado will take on Washington State for their season finale on Saturday. JR Payne's team is still in contention for a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
