Cody Williams and Colorado look ahead to meeting with No. 15 Miami at Barclays Center
Colorado’s men’s basketball team started strong against Pepperdine and never backed down all game. The Buffs rolled to a 91-66 win on Sunday.
Tad Boyle explained why it was so important to him to motivate the guys after a disappointing loss to their in-state rival CSU. “I challenged a couple of our guys I met with after the Colorado State game," Boyle said. "We had a team a couple years ago that didn't lose back-to-back games until late January, maybe February…I think this team can be that kind of team in terms of their resolve and learning from the things that we don't do well and taking that into the next game.”
The Buffs showed a high level of intensity throughout the game in improving to 6-2 on the season. Tristan da Silva led the team in scoring with 22 points on the night. KJ Simpson scored 15 points and Julian Hammond III came off the bench to add 10 points. But freshman Cody Williams was the star of the night after his second consecutive 20-point game. “Cody continues to get better and better every game," Boyle said. "We want him to be aggressive and get downhill."
Since Williams’ shooting percentage is 68 percent over the last four games, that is definitely a winning strategy. “We wanted to come out and be the aggressor," said Williams. "Our defense kind of dictated the game. We came out aggressive on offense, moving the ball. Just coming out with that intensity, that energy to start the game off really gets us going fast”
Colorado next plays No. 15 Miami at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn this Sunday at noon.
