What Stanford coach Troy Taylor said about Deion Sanders and Colorado
Troy Taylor met with the media earlier this week. He discussed some of the differences and similarities he’s facing in rebuilding Stanford compared to those Deion Sanders has in Colorado.
“Obviously with the transfer portal the college football world has turned upside down,” said Troy Taylor.
“I think that what Coach Sanders is doing is trying to adjust to the best ways possible, to what the advantages are and the disadvantages. I think that’s what we are all trying to do, and do it in a way that best captures who you are and the identity of your university. Everybody has different challenges depending on where you’re at but, I have to say, he’s done a really good job……..I’m not critical at all of what Coach Sanders is doing……at the end of the day our job is to graduate players, help them have a great experience, and win football games.
On the changing ways on managing a roster and succeeding in college football.
“We are not a transfer portal university, we’re just not. We’re going to do it with high school players so it’s going to be a little different, it’s going to be kind of a longer build because you can’t flip your roster…..What you do is take your competitive advantages, or the things that you can do and you utilize them and you don’t complain about it, and you figure out a way to do it. That is what Coach Sanders is doing and that’s what I’m trying to do at Stanford as well….How we do it at Stanford is going to be different than almost anybody at the FBS level….I like that. I like being an outlier.
On the atmosphere he expects tonight in Boulder.
“It’s been sold out for a month so I think it’s going to be a great environment….It seems like the fanbase is really into it, they’re loud and so that’s really cool that he and his staff have brought that to Boulder. You know Boulder’s always been a place that’s really enjoyed football. I was a graduate assistant there in 94 or 95…it’s good to see them with the celebrities, I don’t know all the celebrities but that’s pretty cool, the players can tell me. Anytime you can bring an excitement to college football like he is, I think it’s awesome!”
