There are several events happening across the country to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. While many people are taking the opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the late civil rights leader, we're reminded of the message in his famed "I Have a Dream" speech. It was his vision of change and progress toward a better future.

The Colorado Buffaloes football team and staff went down to Denver and helped feed the homeless as a show of gratitude on what would've been King's 95th birthday. Jordan Seaton, Cormani McClain, Cash Cleveland, and others spent time interacting with those less fortunate at the Denver Rescue Mission.

Seaton also prompted people to remember the origin of this holiday. "This is not a day off, but a day to remember and show gratitude," Seaton wrote. "Dr. King, I greatly appreciate the sacrifice you made!"

Dr. King's powerful and influential words echoed from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial over half a century ago, and helped ignite the fire of demand for racial equity and systemic change. While we have made progress towards his vision, it has yet to be fully realized. On this holiday, may we not forget the sacrifices of Dr. King and countless others in the movement, and reflect on his words of perseverance: “Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom.”

Many of the Buffaloes players gathered for the first time yesterday for a team meeting in Boulder with Coach Prime and his staff. It comes three weeks before Signing Day on Feb. 7. Seaton, who's the Buffs' newest five-star signee, is expected to anchor the offensive line next year. He's coming off a great showing at the UA Next All-America game earlier this month.
