Deion Sanders tells CBS analyst Danny Kanell to "stay out of grown folks business" about FSU

Coach Prime defending his stance on being a 'Nole

Deion Sanders took on criticism for saying he was an HBCU grad in a press conference this week. The Colorado Buffaloes coach was called out for being a Florida State Seminoles alumni by KUSA reporter Arielle Orsuto, which caused a quick correction to the statement.

“I’ve got to check you, though, because those Hall of Famers were all Hurricanes like myself, and you're a Nole, my friend,” Orsuto said.

Sanders stopped and said he graduated from Talladega College. He went on to say he wasn't a 'Nole, and it matters what institution you get your degree.

Coach Prime's comments sparked a firestorm from some of the FSU faithful, including Danny Kanell, who took to Twitter and expressed his displeasure.

"Wow. The lack of respect for the school that gave him his start is wild, Kanell said. "The same school that retired his jersey. The same school that let him be Prime. There is a way to handle this question, and this ain’t it."

What's important to note about Kanell's rebuke is that he's wrong about saying FSU made Prime. He took on the persona well before heading to Tallahassee. Sanders pulled no punches and gave the former FSU QB and CBS Sports analyst a piece of his mind.

"My man ain't Nobody let me be me! I was Him and still is," Sanders replied. "Your jersey only gets retired if you're a Dogg and 1 of the greatest ever and I was. Ain't nobody gave me nothing, I took it and earned it. Stay out of Grown folks business u have no idea what is what. The Truth hurts my man. I got time!"

Colorado is two days away from opening the season in Fort Worth against 17th-ranked TCU. A FOX Big Noon Saturday matchup with Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt on the call.
