Deion Sanders delights on Tonight Show, says he wants Jimmy Fallon's job one day
Deion Sanders reflected on his time as a two-sport athlete, discussed his first season at Colorado, and gave motivational speeches to a quartet of cardboard cutouts Thursday during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Coach Prime was on hand to promote his new book “Elevate and Dominate: 21 Ways to Win On and Off the Field,” which hit bookstores on March 12.
Prime’s appearance got off to a rousing start after he was introduced by Fallon. “I really wanted to do that one day, I really did.” Sanders said pointing to Fallon, indicting he’d like to host a talk show. “I wish that one day we could just trade.” he said. “The University of Colorado would be so upset,” Fallon replied, which drew a loud applause from the audience. “They would be so bummed if I showed up to practice like. ‘Hey guys, let’s watch a movie. You guys seen ‘Rudy’?”
After reflecting on his experience playing for the New York Yankees and even signing a baseball card, the conversation moved to the amazing first year that Sanders had at the helm of the Colorado program. “We got our butts kicked on the field. Two games. The other several that we lost; we were – it was one-possession games.” Sanders said. “And so, we reloaded, we revamped, we got some stuff that I could work with now and I cannot wait ‘till this season.”
A few minutes later, Fallon asked about Sanders’ son and quarterback Shedeur.
“Shedeur, the rumor is that he might be the first draft pick.” Fallon said, referring to next year’s draft. “Well, he should.” Sanders quickly replied. “Why would they be rumors?” Sanders questioned to the delight of the audience.
After pumping up his book, Coach Prime next took part in a hilarious segment where he gave advice to pump up cardboard cutouts of Jason Kelce, Caitlin Clark, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and himself.
“Look at you man,” Sanders said to the cardboard cutout of Coach Prime. “Don’t let your appearance cause no interference on what’s about to happen. You are him. You are all that. I don’t care what nobody say baby! You go be you!” Sanders said to his cutout, as his appearance on the show came to a rousing close.
Sanders’ book tour continues in Atlanta today, followed by the Dallas/Ft. Worth area on Saturday and will finish up in Boulder’s Macky Auditorium on Monday, March 18.
