Deion Sanders thanks UA's Kevin Plank, says Nike deal in the works for months
Deion Sanders was extremely thankful to Under Armour executive Kevin Plank for his outstanding commitment over the years. The Hall of famer got emotional when talking to Thee Pregame Show about his split from the company, but sees a bright future with Nike back in the fold.
"I love (Plank) so much for what he's done for me, my youth program's Truth, and just through the years when no one would help," Sanders said. "He stepped out, and he did it by going to Jackson and changing that whole dynamic of all the sports wearing UA stuff."
Sanders returns to Nike after a 14-year hiatus, which was prompted by an exit from Prime. During the height of the 90s, the world's biggest athletic brand mass produced Deion's Diamond Turf line to the market. The current deal with Nike will bring that back, along with some new creations for Colorado that are currently in the works.
"I had to do what I had to do," Sanders said about leaving for Nike.
"I'm excited about it. Rick (George) and I went up to Nike several months ago to see the vision and the goal of what we're trying to attain with our young men. I can't give you everything that's going to transpire, but you're going to be excited when you see. Not only the Footwear, but with the uniforms, you're going to be excited about it."
This leaves the door open for speculation if Colorado's outfitting will rival the one provided by Nike to Oregon? I doubt the Buffs will be getting over 500 unique combinations, but never doubt the pull of Coach Prime.
Colorado opens the season in Fort Worth with TCU on Sept. 2.
