Deion Sanders roasts Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson after asking to join his staff at Colorado

Coach Prime addressed that and more on the ‘Nightcap’ Show

Coach Prime might not be hard to find, but not everyone is cut out for his staff. This is the case for Chad 'Ochocinco' Johnson. The former NFL All-Pro took the stand with Deion Sanders and Shannon Sharpe on Sunday's latest Nightcap episode.

Johnson asked Prime why he wasn't able to take an assistant coaching job at Colorado and got roasted.

"We know you! You do know we know you, right," Sanders told Johnson. "I heard what Shannon did to you, but he was right."

Sanders announced last month that Hall-of-Famer Warren Sapp would be joining his staff at Colorado next year. Johnson felt is a was a perfect time to ask for himself.

About 35 minutes into the two-plus hour episode, Johnson flat out asked Coach Prime for a job on his Colorado Buffaloes staff. “I’m gonna put you on the spot right now. Since I already have 37 jobs, let’s make it 38. How about you have me come be that assistant receivers coach?” Johnson asked.

Much like he did during his playing days to opposing receivers like Johnson, Sanders immediately denied the Cincinnati Bengals great. “You don’t want to do that. You ain’t dedicated like that.” Sanders said. Johnson tried to plead his case, to which Sanders quickly cut him off. “You ain’t dedicated like that to coach. You’re dedicated to play, but you ain’t dedicated to coach.” Prime pointed out.

“I will bring you in as an analyst, but you can’t be there every day.” Sanders added. “You ain’t gonna be there every day. I know you. You do know I know you,” he said, laughing.

“I love the kids, I got 11 of them.” Johnson replied, referring to his multiple children.

Sanders agreed. “I know you love the kids, and you love the game. But you’re not gonna be there every day.” Sanders concluded.

From Dancing with the Stars to a brief professional soccer career to acting roles, Johnson has held many pursuits in his post playing days. This included a brief stint as a guest instructor for Hue Jackson’s Browns in 2016. Not to mention, Johnson has developed the reputation as a good tipper when he goes out to eat, leaving thousands of dollars for the staff that waits on him.

Despite his lack of coaching experience, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Johnson make an appearance in Boulder next year. NFL greats like Sapp, Terrell Owens, and Michael Irvin paid visits to Coach Prime’s Buffaloes squad in 2023.
