The Worldwide Leader in Sports is taking things a bit too personal when it comes to Colorado. Nobody knows if this is due to FOX Sports picking up coverage of Deion Sanders' first two games, but it seems like the narrative recently is always negative.

In a preseason rankings article, ESPN writer David Hale was the latest from the four-letter network to blow up the Buffaloes before the season even started. Now, it wasn't a "Beans and Frank " comparison or saying they have a worse roster than UMass, but it was done without facts. He categorized CU as the lowest tier and said they're "worse than everyone thinks."

"The Buffs have the feel of a Silicon Valley start-up: tons of exposure; a promise to disrupt the whole college football system; a self-styled savant leading the charge; and in two or three years, we'll learn there was never a chance of it turning a profit," Hale wrote.

The ESPN wordsmith even took a swipe at the recent Amazon Prime deal done with Sanders to shoot a documentary on his journey at CU.

"In both cases, we'll be left with little more than a reasonably entertaining Netflix documentary to show for it. At least Colorado had done us the favor of scheduling TCU, Oregon, and USC in the first month, so the hype can only last so long."

A few others, including newly-added FOX host Michael Irvin, have said the opposite about Sanders' Buffs going into the 2023 season. However, Hale is the third ESPN writer in the past week to add fuel to the conversation.

Colorado opens the season with 17th-ranked TCU on Sept. 2. The first of a back-to-back FOX Big Noon Saturday feature for Coach Prime's FBS debut.
