Joel Klatt says Deion Sanders hire was biggest coaching change in CFB history

Coach Prime changed the landscape of the Power Five

Deion Sanders has been a "headline maker" in perhaps college football's biggest off-season. The Colorado Buffaloes coach approaches his FBS debut with high praise for handling a roster flip during his transition from Jackson State.

A famed CU alum believes the hire of Coach Prime is among the best changes in college football history and sees more positives going into the season.

"There is not a more interesting coaching change that I can remember in college football. Maybe (Nick) Saban by going to Alabama. But I think it even pales in comparison to this," FOX Sports' Joel Klatt said on his podcast. What (Sanders) is going to be trying to do at Colorado, first of all, is totally unprecedented."

Sanders' unconventional nature is often talked about by supporters and critics alike. It's one of the reasons why he is Coach Prime, which is a hybrid between his player persona and mentor to his players.

A great melting pot roster for the Buffs with over 70 new players ready to go against TCU. Colorado has become a hot topic as one of the most popular programs in the country. Sanders is building a top-tier team in one of the most unlikely reboot scenarios in a short amount of time.

"It's going to work," Klatt said about Sanders at CU. "It's just a matter of how long it's going to take."

Nike goes beyond relationship with Colorado

Many are projecting a disappointing season for Colorado with Vegas oddsmakers putting their money on a 3.5 win total. If Colorado pulls off some upsets early, a "Gold Rush" will happen on future bets. Klatt believes Prime's first win will come over TCU or Nebraska.

Colorado opens the season against 17th-ranked Horned Frogs. All eyes will be on Fort Worth with Klatt and Gus Johnson on FOX's Big Noon Saturday broadcast.
