Jason Whitlock takes shot at Deion Sanders: "Nothing more than LaVar Ball"
Jason Whitlock once again spent time spinning his wheels, trying to find a way to talk about Deion Sanders. The FOX Sports Radio and The Blaze contributor has been nothing short of relentless, but this one might be a new low. He compares Coach Prime to the likes of LaVar Ball.
"If LaVar Ball had coached his sons in college, this is what it would look like," Whitlock said. "Deion is nothing more than LaVar Ball with someone who is foolish enough to give him $5-$6 million to coach their team.”
Ball, the father of NBA stars Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo, created a less-than-popular apparel line called Big Baller Brand and funneled his children's success into the league. He was a former NFL player for the Carolina Panthers as well.
Whitlock will say anything for ratings and that's primarily his job. He was a once-respected journalist and knows the game he's playing. It's the same reason why Sanders' progress is a regular topic on his show. What's crazy about this week's slam piece is that Ball is nothing like Sanders from any aspect.
Coach Prime made his way from being a Hall of Fame player to the world of coaching in the Power Five. This didn't come by accident either. To suggest he's going about this venture at this stage of his life with the same approach as Ball is disingenuous. Sanders is bringing in young men and constructing their lives with better opportunities. This goes way beyond the product on the field.
Sanders has taken ownership of the shortcomings with CU's football program. The naysayers like Whitlock weren't talking about how bad things were in Boulder last year and how four wins this season came in higher than Vegas oddsmakers projected. Those two things are minor blips on the radar. It's all about trashing the process that Sanders and the Buffs are going through because he is not going to make a NYE Six Bowl.
Colorado needs to win out in the final two games to make the postseason. They'll start by facing Washington State this week for another edition of Pac-12 'After Dark' on Friday at 10 p.m. ET with coverage on FS1.
